In 2016 we celebrated artCentral’s 31st year of giving art
to our Carthage community. I happily welcome the opportunity
to serve as your DirectorCurator, launching artCentral into
a brand new decade. Being handed this beautiful and challenging legacy is a once-in-a-life privilege.
Led by a yearning heart and an ache to find beauty, I made
many stops finding my way here to southwest Missouri. I've meandered from an Arkansas beginning to Dallas to the fringe
of Brooklyn, and the heart of New York City, to four solitary years
in a wilderness valley, then back to a mountaintop community
in the Ozark highlands--settling recently into my arty Carthage cottage beside Route 66.

While at Hendrix College, with assistantships in art and theater, I received an Honors BA degree
in Studio Art. As a single mother of two, I pursued masters studies at General Theological Seminary
in Chelsea, attended classes at NYC’s legendary Art Students League, designed for a small, Manhattan fashion house and freelanced commercial art.
Questing for images and inspiration, my adventures continue to lead me from east to west and north to south—Fire Island to Australia, Vermont to Vancouver, London to Acapulco, Wisconsin to New Orleans, Toronto to St. Croix, North Carolina to Los Angeles, Seattle to San Francisco.
Today this stretch of heartland stillness offers me a welcome new view. From the top of the stairs
at Hyde House, through my StudioOffice windows, bird songs and treetop whispers cavort on playful breezes, as I happily prep newsletters, plan an exhibition or stand before my easel brushing colors.
As DirectorCurator of artCentral, I am living a dream experience. I hope you will join me.
