So lovely is this windows-open morning, as I begin my day reading in my soft chair. Together the waking songs of birds and the pattering of feet, running and hoping not to be late for the bus, make a sweet soundtrack for the story I hold in my hands.
Ten years ago, the pattering feet might have been Katie’s and Maddie’s. Both these young women, now exhibiting their art in the galleries of Hyde House, grew up as school girls in Carthage with family roots deeply set in the soil of southwest Missouri, where creative talent grows as distinctive and lush as the herbs in my flourishing cottage gardens.
What joy and blessing to know Katie Watson and Maddie Capps, both interns at artCentral, along with Emma Pound who’s soon to be a Carthage High School graduate and off to begin her architectural studies at KU.
“Emerging Artists: Katie and Maddie” begins this Friday night with the Reception, 6-8 pm at Hyde House. The exhibition will be open during posted weekend hours until May 15th and afterwards may be viewed through June 5th by appointment at (417) 358-4404. Both opening and exhibition are made possible by the generous underwriting of the Helen S. Boylan Foundation.
In addition to Katie’s stunning scherenschnitte (scissor cut) artworks and Maddie’s extraordinarily perceptive photography, “Emerging Artists” features the award winning selections in Carthage High School’s Helen S. Boylan Foundation Art and Writing Contest.
The public is invited and encouraged to visit Hyde House for “Emerging Artists”. Admission is free. Donations are appreciated. Come enjoy the creativity of our fine local talents—young artists going places. What a privilege to celebrate the early beginnings of their journeys. Make an art purchase or two or three to enjoy in your home or office. Help them buy supplies for their masterpieces yet to come. Support these aspiring, young artists with your dollars.
