Poised! Yes, with a wreath of winter twigs infused with buds of “artCentral green” adorning artCentral’s green door of hospitality, poised and ready we were at Hyde House to open artCentral’s 2022 exhibition season with 76 awesome artworks presented by the Joplin Regional Artists Coalition (JRAC) in their collection heralding spring as VERDANT.
Already every artist’s image is available for purchase online! Each has been lovingly installed and photographed and posted to photo albums on artCentral’s website (www.artcentralcarthage.org)
The exhibition juror has visited, not just once but twice. Her selections of award recipients have been chosen: her comments printed on cards to be displayed with the award ribbons beautifully crafted by JRAC’s president and vice president, Andrew Batcheller and Emily Rose.
Alas, with VERDANT scheduled to run February 4 through March 12, just days before the Opening Reception, the winter storm forecast began to broadcast: SLEET and SNOW! LOTS of SLEET and SNOW. VERDANT art drama at Hyde House ensued!
For forty-eight hours and more, Sleet and Snow, lots of Sleet and Snow, fell as predicted. The hillside drive going up to Hyde House iced over, then became deeply buried in a snowy alabaster blanket. Our best laid plans for VERDANT’s February 4th Opening Reception were temporarily laid to rest under that covering of pristine white. As temperatures plummeted faucets were left drip, drip, dripping to pamper the pipes in artCentral’s elegant 1890’s American foursquare farmhouse. Porch lights were left glowing—signifying the role of our elegant Hyde House as the cultural lighthouse shining over the winter wonderland of our sweet hometown made still and quiet beneath the snow.
I have learned over the years that, when planning an event in February, setting an alternative date is very wise! Thankfully, already listed on our posters and on our invitations, VERDANT has a Weather Alternative date for the Opening.
Now, just one week delayed, the Opening Reception will take place February 11, Friday, 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Hyde House, 1110 East Thirteenth Street in Carthage.
Indeed, like spring sprouts once buried under their blanket of white, all the artworks in the gallery are ready and waiting to be seen and applauded and celebrated! Do come to the Opening! View these vibrant harbingers of spring. Purchase an original or two or more to call your own.
